The OrthoMouse was designed by Dr. Segalle, an orthopedic surgeon, to complement the anatomy and the "position of function" of the human hand. Its unique shape and appearance may seem strange at first glance, but you'll be surprised by the comfort, accuracy and speed it provides.
According to Dr. Segalle and the manufacturer, OrthoVia:
"The OrthoMouse is designed so that it supports the hand and fingers evenly while they adopt the correct and innocuous position – 'the Position of Function' during the use of the OrthoMouse. Your hand Works and Rests (between periods of activity) in the 'Position of Function'."
"The Index and Middle fingers rest supported upon the two buttons. Clicking occurs with a minimum horizontal displacement of the pulp of these fingers. Hence the weight of your fingers does not produce clicking, and you do not have to “hold them in the air” during the use of the OrthoMouse."
"The thumb remains in “Opposition” to the other fingers permanently, which is the main exclusive characteristic of the human hand. Perhaps the most important movement of the human hand is opposition. It allows control, sensitivity and precision, since the fingers assume a position very similar to the one used during writing."
"The thumb on the OrthoMouse is responsible for the scroll features – you move it up for scrolling upwards, down for scrolling downwards, and press the thumb mid button for the 'scrolling click'."

I have to admit that I was skeptical when I first saw the OrthoMouse. However, I've been using it for several months now and have found it to be a comfortable and functional fit. (I tested each of the sizing adapters and found the one that works best for my hand size)

Good mouse!
It is really does support your entire hand in a relaxed posture.
Great for those who spend many hours mousing.
The scroll system is excellent for down scroll (which we tend to do often) and ok for up scroll.
Overall it is one of my most preferred mice from an ergonomics perspective. I now use it full time, but wish I had a few more to pass out to clients.
It really is different from most other mice.
It has helped me to have less
mousing related discomfort.
Swapping inserts is simple but selecting which inserts to use is not so simple, after a few weeks I am not sure I've reached the best choice yet.
And all combinations I have tried were basically ok and better than most any other mouse.
Well worth the price.

I really like this new mouse.
I have had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands, after typing and stuffing envelopes for 25 years!
The new mouse allows my hand to stay in a relaxed position with my middle and fourth fingers not suspended in the air, when using a conventional mouse.
The right hand button that is used by the index finger needs a bit more pressure than I thought it would.
[Ergobuyer note: After researching this in-depth, we've learned that this is likely due to how the mouse is set-up or held while in use. The Orthomouse is customizable for fit (using the included snap-on snap-off sizing adaptors). A good fit results in the finger extending over the entire length of the button. If a user clicks in that position, the force is very low. If the finger presses the button further back - which can happen with a poor fit - the force increases. So, take the time to select the adaptor that provides you with the best fit, and this should not be a problem.]
i gave it a 4 because nothing ought to be rated perfect, else where's the inentive? i could give it a 4.5 or 4.75 if there were such incements
however i had reservations about the mini disc. i'm using the imac and wondered if the disc would eject.
Laura sent me a pdf and so, all's well that, etc ...
[Ergobuyer Note: The mini disc that John refers to is a smaller version of a standard CD on which the manufacturer delivers the product manual. The mini CD works fine with most CD readers. We've also made the manual downloadable so it will be available in either format, solving this concern.]
It is pretty good.
Before, with my old mouse, all the muscles in my hand and arm were getting knotted up.
And with this mouse I work all day with no trouble.
Also it took maybe an hour to get used to the middle button being at the thumb it was just more natural there.
I'd say if you are worried about the price, I don't even remember what I paid.
I previously had an ergonomic mouse of somewhat similar design (can't remember the brand name; was it Goldstone?). That mouse was preferable to this one in one respect: The clicking action was more sensitive -- it didn't take as much pressure. Otherwise, this one measures up.
